Predators in Peril

This Overnight examines the complex relationships within and between ecosystem trophic levels, as well as the vital roles predators play. This overnight also investigates the human impact on these interactions over the centuries.

Who can participate?

Wolf Woods Overnight is designed in two developmentally appropriate levels.

  • Wolf Woods I: 2-5th grade
  • Wolf Woods II: 7th grade and up

 

Where will you sleep?

Wolf Woods - Sleeping in the new Harold C. Schott Education Center

  • Minimum group size is 15 participants, including chaperones.
  • Maximum group size is 120 participants, including chaperones.

Wolf Woods - Sleeping in the Wolf Woods Education Center (a satellite classroom located in the Children's Zoo)

  • Minimum group size is 15 participants, including chaperones.
  • Maximum group size is 20 participants, including chaperones.

 

What will you learn?

During the Wolf Woods Overnight we will prowl the Zoo for predators, explore the intricate food webs that support these animals and learn what role humans have played in the lives of predators over the centuries.

  • Explore food-webs of various eco-regions and uncover the broad implications when the balance is disrupted.
  • Determine what a predator's role is and discuss how predators around the world have been impacted by changes in their environment.
  • Discover the legacies of predators in the United States and how these animals have fared over the generations
  • Explore modern challenges of wildlife management, and species' success stories.
