International Travel and Tuition-Free Graduate Credit! Travel to pivotal hotspots in Africa, Asia, and the Americas to engage in inquiry and action projects on vital issues in conservation. Spend time at the Cincinnati Zoo and use inquiry not only as a tool for integrated learning, but as a powerful agent for student achievement, public engagement in science, and ecological stewardship. Build relationships with classroom teachers, information educators, and conservationists from around the world.

Earth Expeditions looks forward to its sixth year offering extraordinary opportunities for educators. This exciting program brings together the world-class wildlife conservation programs of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden and the academic expertise of Miami University's Project Dragonfly in inquiry-based learning. Our mission is to build an alliance of educators with first-hand knowledge of inquiry-driven, community-based learning for the benefit of ecological communities, student achievement, and global understanding.

How to Apply

Classroom teachers and informal educators may apply now before the January 28th deadline!

Who's Eligible?

Earth Expeditions courses are open to K-12 teachers, graduate students, school administrators, university faculty as well as educators from non-school settings such as environmental centers, businesses, youth programs, parks, museums or zoos. Applicants must be 18 years old or older and have a bachelor's degree.

Expedition Options

Field Expedition

Courses provide direct study experiences at Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden conservation sites in Africa, Central and South America, Asia and the Caribbean. Join cheetah conservation efforts in Namibia, explore neotropical ecology in Costa Rica or study reintroduced blue-and-gold macaws in Trinidad. Build relationships with educators around the world. Each participant earns seven graduate credits and has tuition fees waived, from Miami University. Learn More>.

Zoo Expedition

Courses take place at the Cincinnati Zoo, using the wealth of Zoo resources. Classes on primate behavior, adaptation, and other topics take place through seminars and hands-on investigations of the Zoo’s plants and animals. Each participant earns three graduate credits and has tuition fees waived, from Miami University. Learn More>

World Community Conference- January 9, 2010

Please join us as we celebrate education, conservation, and learning at the 5th Annual Earth Expeditions World Community Conference on January 9, 2010.

This year's conference will showcase the work of our current and past Earth Expeditions participants, who conducted inquiry projects at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, at conservation hotspots around the world, and in classrooms throughout the country.

Invite your friends and colleagues! All interested in Earth Expeditions are encouraged to attend and learn more about upcoming courses.

Registration is free, and Zoo admission and parking are waived for all attendees.

There will be breakout sessions sharing more on Field Expeditions 2010 courses and the new Global Field Master's Program and Advanced Inquiry Master's program visits from some animal ambassadors, and much, much more!
